Ultra X 110 Scotland by Asics takes place in the Scottish Highlands, a mountainous region in northwest Scotland known for its stunning scenery and trails, with the Great Glen and Loch Ness at its centre.
Following a geological fault line formed more than 400 million years ago, the Great Glen runs arrow straight from Fort William to Moray Firth. Surrounded by some of the UK’s highest mountains and filled with four immense lochs, including the mythical Loch Ness, the glen is a unique wilderness rich in Highland heritage.
Ultra X 50 Scotland by Asics (50km single-stage race) takes place on the second day (Sunday) of Ultra X Scotland. Both races are held under a full Scottish Athletics permit (#11636) granted through the TRA.
THE RACE:
Ultra X Scotland is a multi-stage ultra-marathon that takes place over two days around Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands in May each year. The Scottish Highlands is a mountainous region encompassing northwest Scotland, with the Great Glen and Loch Ness at its centre.
Following a geological fault line formed more than 400 million years ago, the Great Glen runs arrow straight from Fort William to Moray Firth. Surrounded by some of the UK’s highest mountains and filled with four immense lochs, the glen is a unique wilderness rich in Highland heritage.
The course takes participants on a circumnavigation of Loch Ness, following the Great Glen Way and the South Loch Ness Trail from Bught Park Pitches in Inverness to Loch Ness Beach in Dores, covering a total distance of 110km (68 miles).
There are two stages, Saturday and Sunday. The first stage is 60km and will commence at 07:00. The second stage is 50km and will commence at 08:00. There are checkpoints stationed approximately 10km apart where competitors can access water, food (at predesignated checkpoints), shelter, and, if necessary, medical support.
Competitors will sleep at their accommodation in Inverness on the Friday before and the Sunday after the race. On Saturday night, competitors will camp at the very southern end of Loch Ness in Fort Augustus, where they can enjoy osteopathy/physiotherapy treatment, medical care, and hot water.
Ultra X Scotland is a UTMB® World Series Qualifier in the 50K category.

The Great British Slam award is in recognition of those who complete all three GB Ultra X events within a calendar year.
Ultra X Scotland (110 & 50)
Ultra X Wales (110 & 50)
Ultra X England (110 & 50)
Participants can choose between completing all three 110 events or all three 50 events but they cannot mix distances.
In order to be eligible for the award, entrants must enter and finish each of the individual events within the cut-off times of each race. Awards will be presented at the finish line of the final event of the year, Ultra X England.

We understand that competitors may wish to travel to the Scottish Highlands with family or friends. Should they wish to enjoy the region while you race, we highly recommend visiting the following sights. Alternatively, you can visit them together after the event.
