Ultra X 110 Madeira is a multi-stage ultramarathon that takes place in and around Madeira. Madeira is an autonomous Portuguese island and the largest and most populous of the Madeira Archipelago (Porto Santo and the Desertas being the others).
The island is an oasis of green, with incredible natural pools carved out of lava rocks, gorgeous cliffs overlooking the North Atlantic Ocean and charming towns. It is located in a region known as Macaronesia, just under 400 kilometres to the north of the Canary Islands and 520 kilometres west of the Kingdom of Morocco.
Taking part in mid-November, the climate conditions for the race should be temperate, with lows of around 9°C and highs of 21°C.
THE RACE:
Ultra X 110 Madeira is a multi-stage ultra-marathon that takes place in and around the island of Madeira. Madeira is an autonomous Portuguese island and the largest and most populous of the Madeira Archipelago (Porto Santo and the Desertas being the others). This course will take you on an epic journey, over mountains with incredible panoramic viewpoints of this stunning island, through a lush UNESCO world heritage site forest and along a brilliant giant coastline with the sea air in your face. During this unforgettable weekend, competitors will experience the place, the people, and the beauty of this iconic island in full.
There are two stages, Saturday and Sunday. The first stage is 60km and will commence at 05:00. The second stage is 50km and will commence at 07:00. There are checkpoints stationed approximately 10km apart where competitors can access water, shade/shelter, therapist and, if necessary, medical support.
We recommend that competitors book accommodation in Machico on the Friday night before and the Sunday night after. On Saturday night, competitors will camp near Sao Vicente, where they can enjoy therapist treatment, medical care, and hot water with which to rehydrate their dehydrated meals.
Ultra X Madeira is a UTMB® indexed race in the 100k category.
