Ultra X Madeira
The Ultra X Madeira is an event that takes place in and around Madeira. Madeira is an autonomous Portuguese island, the largest and most populous of the Madeira Archipelago (Porto Santo and the Desertas being the others). It offers three races: 110km two stage event and a 60km and 50km single stage event.
The island is an oasis of green, with incredible natural pools carved out of lava rocks, gorgeous cliffs overlooking the North Atlantic Ocean and charming towns. It is located in a region known as Macaronesia, just under 400 kilometres to the north of the Canary Islands and 520 kilometres west of the Kingdom of Morocco. This course will take you on an epic journey, over mountains with incredible panoramic viewpoints of this stunning island, through a lush UNESCO world heritage site forest and along a brilliant giant coastline with the sea air in your face. During this unforgettable weekend, competitors will experience the place, the people, and the beauty of this iconic island in full.
Taking part in mid November, the climate conditions for the race should be temperate, with lows of around 9°C and highs of 21°C.
THE RACE:
There are two stages to Ultra X Madeira over Saturday and Sunday. Saturday is the first stage of the 110km race, which is 60km and will
commence at 05:00 in Machico. The 60km single stage race will also commence at the same time along the same route. The second stage of the 110km route, is 50km and will commence at 07:00 on the Sunday in Soa Vicente. The 50km single stage race will also commence at the same time along the same route, with the race finishing in Machico. There are checkpoints stationed approximately 10km apart where competitors can access water, shade/shelter and if necessary, medical support.
Ultra X Madeira is a UTMB® indexed race in the 100k and 50k categories.
