Ultra BOLIVIA Race

Ultra BOLIVIA Race. The magic of South Lípez.

In the south of Bolivia, on the Chilean border, the start of the race will be at the foot of the Licancabur volcano and on the edge of the Laguna Verde at 4300 meters above sea level. We will then cross Sud Lípez, from south to north, to reach the Salar de Uyuni. Our stages will allow us to discover the Desert of Dalí, the path of the lagoons with the Laguna Colorada and the Ollagüe Volcano.

In this region, this mixture of salt deserts, ocher and black mountains is magnified by sunlight and lagoons of all colours. Around these islets of life, surrounded by volcanoes, participants will discover pink flamingos wading through the icy water and also small herds of vicuñas which, along with the llama and the alpaca, inhabit the region.

The arrival of the last stage will be on the Isla del Pescado in the heart of the Salar de Uyuni.

The Ultra BOLIVIA Race is a 170 km race in 6 stages and is Self-Supported. Each competitor must carry a backpack containing the compulsory equipment. The race takes place on the Bolivian Altiplano in South America. The participants must follow the route as marked by the organizers. There are checkpoints located at regular intervals. Every night a bivouac is provided by the organization. Technical support and a medical team are present during the event. Competitors who cannot meet the time limit per stage (10 hours) can stay in the race.

The route of the Ultra BOLIVIA Race crosses among the most fascinating landscapes of Latin America! The start of the race in Salinas is 550 km South of La Paz. You will discover the archaeological site of Alcaya in the first stage. The crossing of this site will take you to 4100 meters of elevation in the heart of the wild Altiplano: an arid landscape surrounded by volcanoes, some exceeding 6000 meters. The second and third days will help you discover the authentic villages and you will go to the foot of Volcano Tunupa (5400 meters). The rest of the route will be on the Salar de Uyuni: the largest salt desert in the world (10 000 km2 of salt at 3650 meters of elevation). You will discover the Isla del Pescado and Isla Incahuasi and giant cacti. The Salar immensity will provide a unique experience!
