TransPortugal MTB

TransPortugalTRANSPORTUGAL MTB

The TransPortugal MTB stage race is a unique event in which participants cross Portugal in 7 days, North to South, with 830 km of off-road racing across forest tracks, gravel roads, and steep single tracks on clifftops.

Since 2003, more than 1000 athletes have ventured out to discover roads, paths, and trails, as well as some of the best hotels in Portugal. This event has always featured hours on a bike, following a GPS route, getting to know a country with an incomparable history. Ranging in age from 20 to nearly 80, this is the adventure of a lifetime for all participants, and an annual week-long vacation for many others. There are also those who have already reached the status of “IMMORTAL”, having more than 10 participations!

THE ROUTE:

  • No signs, ribbons or arrows to indicate the way. Intuitive and flawless GPS guiding. You can never get lost and are always sure you are following the right race track.
  • An innovative way of racing where each participant follows a virtual marked track on the screen of his GPS receiver.
  • Always racing across very isolated and peaceful landscape and in self sufficiency, no aid stations and all external support is forbidden.
  • Staged in-line race; one stage a day; one category only classifying racers individually; allowances for age and gender.
    • Shortest stage – 74,5km;
    • Longest stage – 196,5km;
    • Average stage – 116km;
    • Total of 830 km / 14.200m Vertical climbing

With changes being made to the route every year, the organiser’s objective is for all participants to get to know Portugal in depth, and to have the experience of a lifetime. Each participant gets free t-shirts, a certificate, the full route GPS tracks and an online gallery of photos he can download. Special racing jerseys for all Finishers.
