The Ragged 50K & 75-Mile Stage Race
Experience a premier mountain running challenge in Central New Hampshire’s rugged backcountry. The Ragged 50K and the three-day Ragged 75 Stage Race take runners through the scenic and demanding Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway (SRKG). Known for its technical single-track, steep vertical climbs, and “family-style” atmosphere, this event is designed for those seeking a true test of grit and a supportive community environment.
Course Highlights:
-
The 50K: A “heavy” 50K (approximately 33 miles) featuring over 6,300 feet of vertical gain. This point-to-point trail run crosses multiple summits and has served as a host for USATF National Championship events.
-
The 75-Mile Stage Race: A grueling three-day journey covering roughly 15,500 feet of elevation gain. Each stage summits iconic peaks including Mt. Ragged, Mt. Kearsarge, and Mt. Sunapee.
-
Terrain: A diverse mix of technical single-track, double-track, fire roads, and scenic dirt roads, with roughly 80% of the course on unpaved trails.
The Experience: Beyond the miles, the Ragged event is defined by its camaraderie. Stage racers benefit from a unique format that includes nightly course briefings and communal overnight camping, fostering deep connections among competitors. With generous cut-offs and dedicated support from the race organization, it remains a favorite for both elite ultrarunners and determined hikers looking to push their limits in the New England wilderness.
