Tajik Mountain Traverse – Explorer’s Edition
This beautiful 153 kilometer supported race through the rugged mountains of Tajikistan will be an event like you’ve never experienced. Come and join us for the first ever stage race in Tajikistan!
The Tajik Mountain Traverse will take place over the course of 6 stages. We will traverse 153 kms of beautiful and rugged mountainous terrain. We will climb challenging mountain passes, navigate the river valleys and tour the most beautiful glacial lakes of the Fann Mountain range. Total elevation gain of 7,500 meters as our traverse crosses four mountain passes with the highest reaching a max elevation of 4,091m above sea level.
A Fully Supported Race
You will run with a light pack, and everything else is carried for you. Each stage will end at a tented camp where we will eat and recover together as we trade stories of the day’s adventures and enjoy our natural setting in community around the campfire. We will provide all food and lodging throughout the event. Runners will only need to carry what they require for the day’s stage (i.e. light pack and your favourite energy snacks). Additional baggage will be transported for participants to the next camp.
6 stages, 9 days
The event is 9 days in total (including travel/cultural days), though you will likely want to come for more.
There will be 6 x racing days, 3 x traveling and cultural days, and then you are free to explore the Pamir Highway, Dushanbe or other nearby sights.
Explore with us
This is the first year we are running the race, and have decided to keep it small and friendly. There will be no more than 30 like-minded runners. Most runners are from Europe and North America, with a small group of talented local runners joining us to develop their running skills.
Get the Fastest Known Time
Come and run to have your names recorded in the history of the Silk Road. All stage winners will be recorded as the initial holders of the Fastest Known Time. We will be tracking and posting the Fastest Known Time for each and every stage at fastestknowntime.com.
Majestic Fann Mountains
These mountains and valleys were explored by Alexander the Great, whose namesake lake is our final, stage 6 stopping point. Along the way you’ll see stunning peaks with a total elevation gain of 7,500m across four mountain passes with the highest reaching a max elevation of 4,091m above sea level.
All who can complete this daunting challenge will be celebrated for their great physical and mental strength and the one who does it the fastest will be crowned the champion of the Tajik Mountain Traverse.
Tajikistan has a rich and fascinating culture. With a history dating back thousands of years, and part of the ancient Persian empire, Tajikistan was also ruled by the Soviet leadership for 90+ years. This mix of East, West and Soviet culture can be found everywhere.
