The Swiss Epic
The Swiss Epic is a prestigious five-day mountain bike stage race held in the heart of the Swiss Alps, specifically within the rugged and scenic Canton of Graubünden. As a “Legend” race within the global Epic Series, it serves as a premier European qualifier for the Absa Cape Epic. The event is designed for two-person teams, challenging both professional riders and ambitious amateurs to “Conquer the Alps” through a mix of high-alpine endurance and world-class flow.
The Course & Terrain:
-
Alpine Backcountry: Each year, the race features a newly designed route that traverses iconic alpine landscapes, typically covering roughly 300–350 kilometers with vertical gains exceeding 10,000 meters.
-
Diverse Trails: Riders experience a signature mix of high-altitude singletrack, technical rooty descents, professionally built flow trails, and demanding climbs over mountain passes that often reach above 2,500 meters.
-
Iconic Locations: The race rotates through world-renowned mountain bike destinations such as Davos, St. Moritz, and La Punt, showcasing the “Bike Kingdom” of the Swiss Alps.
The Experience:
-
Teamwork & Camaraderie: The two-person team format is central to the Swiss Epic DNA, requiring partners to stay within two minutes of each other at all times. This fosters a unique bond of shared struggle and triumph.
-
Premium Hospitality: True to its Swiss roots, the race is known for “top-notch” logistics. Participants enjoy high-quality accommodations, post-stage recovery meals, and professional bike mechanical support, allowing them to focus entirely on the ride.
-
Epic Series Legacy: Completing the Swiss Epic contributes toward “Epic Legend” status—a distinction reserved for those who finish three Epic Series events, including the pinnacle race in South Africa. It remains a bucket-list challenge defined by its “raw mountain spirit” and postcard-perfect scenery.
