Savanna Origin of Trails:
Affectionately dubbed “SA’s MTB Party of the year”, the stage race MTB Experience is an individual 2-day MTB Stage Race.
Founded in 2013, the routes highlight the beauty and splendour of Stellenbosch, and mountain bikers can look forward to experiencing a vast network of world-class trails while celebrating the origin of SA mountain biking.
Be sure to take in the scenery, and enjoy the routes while experiencing on-route offerings that go against the norm at SA’s “MTB Party of the year”! The Race Village will be buzzing with excitement, live music, mouth-watering food, drinks and more.
Day 1: From the start at Coetzenburg riders head towards Botmaskop via the cricket fields and Hangbrug. Riders enter Botmaskop after 4km and will complete a 7.5km loop enjoying some of the newly built Botmaskop Trails before heading back to Hangbrug where the first waterpoint at 13km is situated. The famous Bergpad takes riders through Eden to enjoy the spectacular trails of Mont Marie and Dornier. Waterpoint 2 will be enjoyed after 23km at Chalenor Coffee Shop on the way to Dornier. After completing the exciting Dornier loop riders will cross back onto Mont Marie where the infamous floating bridge awaits! The waterpoint and entertainment after the bridge at 32km will keep riders excited! The final 11km consists of a climb back up to Eden but riders will be rewarded with the all-time favourite G-Spot descent after which the finish line will be almost in sight!
Day 2: Saturday night’s Pub Ride will soon be forgotten while climbing from the start at Coetzenburg towards Eden Forest! Some fun singletrack down Eden will take riders out of Eden and across to the vineyards of Blaauwklippen. A section through Jamestown will take riders past Stellenrust towards the exhilarating Ernie Els Trails. After the thrill of Ernie Else the hard work is done, as the route approaches the R44 and waterpoint 2 at the Stellenbosch Airfield! It will be a special experience and a great spectator spot with lots of partying happening! From there it’s on to the newly Spier trails winding their way along the river’s edge. Waterpoint 3 will be reached at the Van Ryn Distillery… we couldn’t think of a better final on-route party stop! After that, it’s a flat route home along the railway line and the final celebration at the finish!
