Nyungwe Ultra Trail

The Concept
A world-class 110KM ultra-endurance stage race over 2 demanding days, crossing the wild and technical terrain of Nyungwe Forest National Park, Rwanda, with over 4,500m of elevation gain, testing athletes through steep climbs, rugged trails, endurance, resilience, strategy, and mental strength. Designed for elite and highly trained athletes, this will be one of Rwanda’s most demanding ultra-trail challenges ever.
More than a race, Nyungwe Ultra-Trail aims to position Rwanda as a premier destination for extreme trail running in Africa. Rwanda offers an exceptional terrain, both wild and preserved, amidst rolling hills, remote villages, and spectacular views. The journey reaches its climax in the heart of Nyungwe Forest National Park, a pristine rainforest renowned for its outstanding biodiversity and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Nyungwe Ultra-Trail will promote Rwanda’s exceptional natural environment, adventure tourism, conservation, and international ultra-endurance competition on one of Africa’s most unique and spectacular trail-running landscapes.
Our Values
NYUNGWE ULTRA-TRAIL is built on deep respect for Rwanda’s landscapes, biodiversity, and local communities. Organized in one of the country’s most preserved natural environments, the event promotes sustainable tourism, local economic impact, and environmental responsibility through close collaboration with Rwandan partners and communities.
Crossing 110KM with over 4,500m of elevation gain, athletes race through rolling hills, remote villages, steep climbs, and the pristine Nyungwe rainforest, committing to respect local cultures, protect the environment, and minimize their ecological footprint.
Beyond competition, Nyungwe Ultra-Trail is a human, cultural, and environmental adventure, where endurance, resilience, and solidarity come together in the heart of Rwanda’s exceptional wilderness.
