Gorafe Adventure

Tucked into the heart of Andalucía, Gorafe Adventure is a multi-day gravel journey through one of Europe’s most surreal landscapes: the badlands of the Granada Geopark. Born from Epicos’ experience running the Utopia Gravel race in the same region, this trip trades race-day intensity for a slower, richer way to explore the same jaw-dropping terrain — perfect for riders who want adventure without the clock.

Starting and finishing in Granada, the route climbs into the Sierra de Huétor with views of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada, winds through the cave-dwelling town of Guadix, and spends time deep in the Gorafe Desert itself — crossing a historic Gustave Eiffel-designed railway bridge along the way. Later stages trace a scenic greenway past a stunning reservoir, pause at natural hot springs, and climb into the greener, higher reaches of the Sierra de Baza before a final crossing of the Sierra Nevada foothills back to Granada.

This is a supported, semi-guided experience capped at a small group size, led by experienced local guides who ride every stage alongside a 4×4 support vehicle handling luggage, mechanical support, and water and snack resupply. Nights are split between a comfortable hotel and authentic, comfortably renovated cave houses (“cuevas”) — a uniquely Andalusian way to rest between days in the saddle.

There’s no finish-line clock here. Riders should be comfortable riding consecutive days on loose surfaces, but the pace is relaxed, with plenty of room to stop, take photos, and soak in the scenery. It’s a demanding week physically, but one built around discovery, hospitality, and camaraderie rather than competition.
