GlobalLimits São Tomé – The Hemisphere Crossing

5th GlobalLimits São Tomé – The Hemisphere Crossing. 9 August 2024 | 6 Stages | 200km

The islands of São Tomé and Príncipe in the Gulf of Guinea offer a glimpse into forgotten plantations, elegantly built colonial houses, the spectacular tubular Pico Cão Grande, colourful natural beauty in the jungle, and unspoiled beaches.

The race is a unique challenge that passes through the archipelago, crossing cocoa and coffee plantations, witnessing the island’s unusual histories, and camping on idyllic beaches where five species of marine turtles still lay their eggs when in season.

The race finishes at the Equator Line – São Tomé is the closest country on earth to the coordinates 0°N 0°E – where the equator crosses the 0° meridian.

The Race

The race starts at the largest plantation of São Tomé “Roca Agostinho Neto” and will finish at the equator line on the small island Ilhéu das Rolas. The race course is projected to be 200km held in 6 stages with a total elevation gain of 6000m.

The Course

The Course is mainly on trails with rocky or grass-covered ground, gravel or forest soil. Only in very few cases will there be asphalted ground. The course is mostly profiled with some modest ascents and descents.

You will pass through numerous small villages, lonely beaches, cocoa-, coffee- and palm oil plantations during the race. If you want to prepare for the race and want to watch a video animation of the stages, then click this link.
