Cross the Andes
Crossing the Andes is an ultra-distance gravel race that does exactly what its name promises: it takes riders from the fertile Maule Region of Chile, up and over the Andes Mountains, and into Argentina — a genuine international mountain crossing completed entirely under one’s own power.
The route runs non-stop, in true ultra-distance style, through the Vergara Pass into Malargüe, connecting with what organisers call the purest heart of the Andes range. Riders then push on to Las Loicas, Argentina, where a mid-race stop offers a chance to eat, shower, and recover before continuing through the Pehuenche Pass — a stretch that takes in the striking scenery of Laguna del Maule and the surrounding high-mountain landscape. From Las Loicas onward, the race resumes as a non-stop effort until the full route is completed.
Deliberately kept small, entries are capped at a strictly limited number of riders, making this a genuinely exclusive test reserved for committed ultra-distance and adventure cyclists rather than a mass-participation event. Support is built around that intensity: riders receive live online tracking throughout, on-route medical assistance, and extraction support if needed, alongside aid stations in the Malargüe mountain sector, an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast in Las Loicas, and full photo and video coverage of the effort.
The race closes with a proper celebration — a post-race event and podium recognition ceremony — marking the end of a route that blends serious physical demand with a rare kind of geographic achievement: riding clear across one of the world’s great mountain ranges, from one country into another, self-sufficient the entire way.
