AtacamaSpirits is an extreme test of endurance and spirit, a seven-day stage race that pushes mountain bikers into one of the most challenging environments on Earth — the Atacama Desert. Spanning roughly 650 km from the heights of the Andes to the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean, this ultramarathon MTB event is as much about navigating the desert’s raw immensity as it is about strength on the bike.
Across seven days, riders will climb more than 7,200 meters in total, facing long ascents, rugged terrain, and the relentless demands of altitude. One stage alone climbs to 5,700 m above sea level, making AtacamaSpirits one of the highest MTB races in the world. The combination of extreme elevation, self-navigation, and the desert’s harsh conditions requires not only peak physical conditioning but also a sharp mind and unbreakable determination.
Every day delivers new challenges: scorching sun, freezing nights, vast salt flats, barren ridges, and open skies so clear they reveal the universe itself. Riders must carry the essentials, endure sudden weather shifts, and find their path across landscapes where nature gives no mercy.
But the reward is just as immense. To ride through the driest non-polar desert on Earth, to conquer both the terrain and yourself, and to share the journey with a small community of athletes chasing the same impossible dream — this is what this event is all about. It’s not simply a race; it’s a journey of transformation, where grit and resilience carry you further than the wheels beneath you.
