This version of the RVO is the only mountain bike race to cross the Equator, from north to south along the Great Rift Valley, passing through wildlife conservancies, National Parks and Forests. Cycling on the RVO is like cycling through pages of the National Geographic magazine, each stage crosses incredible landscape that is littered with wildlife; through verdant farmland, vast indigenous forests, blistering volcanic deserts, arid scrubland, and rolling savannah. The challenging trails are raw yet flowing, with single track trails demanding good skills. The natural beauty of the region conceals challenging altitudes (peak race altitude is at 2,700 m).
The RVO is probably the most unique mountain bike adventure race in the world, delivering breathtaking experiences to discerning cyclists that yearn for an incredible adventure. The only course markings are the start and finish lines of each stage, each team must depend 100% upon their GARMIN GPS to self-navigate for 5 days. Solo riders are welcome, however, because this Odyssey traverses remote areas it is beneficial to have a teammate for support in case of any mishap. Safety marshals on motorbikes and medical teams will be strategically placed along the route. Because this is not a race against the clock, e-mountain bikes are welcome.
Accommodation is in shared twin rooms or luxury tents at safari lodges. The boutique lodges have limited accommodation therefore participation is limited to only 24 participants.
