2300 km MOUNTAIN BIKE race, non stop with limited support, starting in Pietermaritzburg in mid-June every year and following South Africa’s Freedom Trail to end in Wellington outside Cape Town

Entry pp R27200 The entry fee is R27200 (NO VAT) and includes: Pre-Race dinner and accommodation in Pietermaritzburg; Food and accommodation at each of the 25 support stations along the route; Sponsored products for use during the race; Downloadable map set and narratives: 1:50 000 topographical map sheets of the Freedom Trail plus accompanying narrative descriptions for download; Participants race top – technical fleece garment; Finisher’s blanket; Pizza at the end.

Previously, on our trips through the Alps, we managed to keep our backpacks fairly light. But that was in summer conditions, with pastry shops and gelato cafes along the way. This is winter, in rural South Africa.
