The Alpaca MTB Challenge is the first MTB stage race to take place in Bolivia. It will be an 8-stage event, in the region of La Paz, between May 1 and May 8, 2020.
Bolivia is located in the heart of South America and has a tremendous diversity. Considering the human and cultural dimensions, Bolivia is a rainbow country, with 36 ethnicities and 37 official languages.
But also geographically, Bolivia has an amazing variety in terms of territories located between 90 m and 6,542 m above sea level. Each region has its peculiarities, in the East we have the Amazon, with a very hot and humid weather, covered by a thick rainforest. In the West, on the Altiplano, we have a high plain located at an altitude of about 4,000 m, where the weather is dry and cold. Between the two, we find the Andes Mountains, with many summits higher than 6,000 metres, eternal snow and glaciers and, in the foothills of the Cordillera, the Yungas: deep, extremely humid valleys.
This diversity also allows Bolivia to have an incredible fauna and flora, with its iconic animals such as jaguars, spectacled bears, pumas, condors, alpacas, but also many caimans, alligators, anacondas, monkeys, parrots…
